Effects of calcium carbide waste on soil bacteria and enzymes
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effects of calcium carbide waste on some groups of soil microorganisms and soil enzymes were studied using standard microbiological and biochemical techniques. Soil samples were collected from a vehicle maintenance area as well as from an adjacent farm land (control) during the dry and rainy seasons. The population of all the bacterial groups in the different seasons was affected adversely by calcium carbide waste. Total heterotrophic bacteria (THB), being a representative of the bacterial groups decreased from 3.6 x 10 ±0.35 cfu/g to 4.1 x 10 ±0.09 cfu/g in the dry season, and from 4.1 x 10±0.02cfu/g to 1.1 x 10±0.01cfu/g during the rainy season. There was also significant decrease in the activity of the enzymes in different seasons. The enzymes most adversely affected in the different seasons include acid phosphate, urease and lipase. The effect of calcium carbide waste on the parameters studied was more severe during the dry season.

Isolation and Characterization of Bacteria Isolated from Municipal Solid Waste for Production of Industrial Enzymes and Waste Degradation
Waste generation and its control have taken an important role in our environment. With the doubling of population and changing lifestyle pattern of the inhabitants the quantity of municipal waste generated is increasing in an alarming rate. Most of this waste is subjected to dumping in a specified disposal yard. The greatest challenge to the environmentalists is the eco friendly management of t...
متن کاملProduction of Silicon Carbide Liquid Fertilizer by Hydrothermal Carbonization Processes from Silicon Containing Agricultural Waste Biomass
Wastes from agriculture or sewage systems have several properties, such as huge volume, high humidity, and high organic composition. According to past studies, sugarcane extract, peanut shells and rice husks have high silicon content. Chemical conversion of biomass feedstock will enhance usage and provide value to agricultural waste. In this research, we applied hydrothermal carbonization to co...

In order to investigate the effect of growth media and nutrition method on the growth of Bellis perennis L. and nutrients uptake, a factorial experiment was conducted with two factors: growth media (municipal waste compost, Azolla compost, tea wastes compost) and nutrition method (without fertilizer, soil application, foliar spray) in comparison to the control medium (60% soil + 20% manure + 10...
متن کاملSynthesis of calcium carbide-derived carbon by mechanochemical reaction of calcium carbide with sulfur, iron sulfide and zinc oxide
In the present work, we report a novel design and preparation for the mechanochemical synthesis of calcium carbide-derived carbon (CaC2-CDC) at ambient temperature. Thermodynamic calculations confirmed the possibility of calcium carbide-derived carbon formation by the reaction of calcium carbide with sulfur, iron sulfide and zinc oxide at ambient temperature. The CDCs were synthesized by the ba...
